U-PICK

U-Pick-Open Every Day

Omena Cut Flowers is a U-Pick flower farm located about seven miles north of Suttons Bay on M-22 in Leelanau County. From the month of May through October, we are open daily from dawn 'til dark. The farm is self-service, offering 26 beds to pick from, with over 40 varieties of annuals, perennials  and dahlias.

What You'll Find When You Visit

* Free containers full of water such as milk jugs and jars will be on hand near the shed and you may take them home with you. You may also prefer to bring your own containers.

* Find scissors/snips under the tent and notepads/pens to keep track of what you cut (flowers are priced by the stem/signs tell the price). Inexpensive vases are also on hand for sale.

* A cooler full of bouquets to go at various prices in the cooler behind the shed.

* As always, the garden is self-serve and honor system. Signs in the beds tell the price per stem.

* Cash, checks to OCF and Venmo accepted, (@OmenaCutFlowers). The lock box is located just inside the shed.

Most stems are priced from 25 to 75 cents each--with some costing less (lavender is 10 cents a stem) and some costing more (peonies and lilies are $$2.50 - $3.) Click here for a more detailed list of availability. Also, my Facebook page features photo albums including one called "What Blooms When."

The U-Pick functions on the honor system; I’m not always on site, but there are instructions under the tent and a lock box where you can leave cash or check made out to Omena Cut Flowers. You can also Venmo to @OmenaCutFlowers.

To get here, stay on M-22 and enjoy the view. This highway hugs the shores of Lake Michigan, traveling the whole of the Leelanau Peninsula, and will also carry you to nearby Suttons Bay, a lovely, year-round village which affords boutique shopping, galleries, and even a movie theater, along with a number of antique stores and fine restaurants.

Flowers

At Omena Cut Flowers we have over 40 varieties of annuals and perennials. Our selection of flowers changes with the season, starting with daffodils and ending with dahlias and mums, so there is always something new blooming from May to early November - yes, November. Because we are on the water we rarely get a hard frost until late October or early November, so dahlias and all the annuals keep cranking out the blooms.

Note: If you are picking for a wedding...EVERYTHING I grow lasts 5-7 days in the vase, minimum! I have weekly subscribers who expect their flowers to look good throughout the week. So, for a Saturday wedding, many of our brides come out on Thursday or Friday and can be confident that their flowers will look gorgeous. In fact it's good to give them a day or so to hydrate before you arrange. As long as you strip the stems, keep them in deep cool water and in a cool place, they will be gorgeous on your wedding day. We also sell flower preservative to extend the life of your blooms.

What blooms when

Our beautiful selection of flowers is constantly changing! The best way to see what is blooming is to follow me on social media, where I am frequently posting about what is in bloom: visit my Omena Cut Flowers Facebook  page or Instagram . (Omena_Cut_Flowers). On Facebook, check out the album titled "What Blooms When" as well as albums by the month. Click on each photo to see the date it was taken as well as a description of the flowers.

Each season is a little different though, so if you have questions before you come out to pick, contact us!

Flower care tips

Here are a few tips to get the most out of your Omena Cut Flowers. Feel free to contact us with and questions or to get more information!

Tip 1 - Keep the water level in your vase high - they drink a lot during the week!
Tip 2 - Change water mid-week and add 1 tsp. of flower preservative
Tip 3 - Keep away from fruits and veggies which emit a gas called ethylene that makes flowers fade fast
Tip 4 - Snip off faded blooms (like iris and lilies) -secondary, closed blooms will open
Tip 5 - Pull out faded stems so your bouquet always looks fresh. Condense the longest lasting blooms into a bud vase and put it on your nightstand - and then come back to pick another bouquet!
